The TCC (Total-Contact-Cast)

An effective way of treating diabetic foot ulcers:

The TCC is an individually fitted cast, made from light but robust fibreglass. This method, which is still relatively new in Austria, is used to treat deep sores on the sole of the foot. It is used mainly for the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome.

The healing process is speeded up by the distribution of pressure over the whole area-- i.e., punctual pressure relief--, since the sore is nearly free from pressure when you are standing or walking.

This cast is taken off only for a change of dressing. Another great advantage for the patient is his increased mobility.

In the USA and many other European countries, the Total-Contact-Cast has been successfully used for decades and is regarded as the gold standard when it comes to the treatment of neuropathic plantar ulcers.

This method must be prescribed by your doctor, since it is essential to determine that there is no infection or extensive impairment of the circulation.
